It’s true. I have a handicapped grand-daughter who was born without one chromosome. It is a rare genetic condition. Her mother taught her to say “hello” and to smile. Those are her skills. She has worked hard to try to speak and she can say some sentences. She finished her special education classes when she was 21, but she functions maybe at the level of a four-year-old. Trying to teach her to do basic tasks resulted in her being frustrated and crying. It was heart-breaking. There is a great range of people out there that you don’t see and don’t know about. You can’t assume everyone is “normal”.
