How many times did you submit your manuscript to publishers before any got accepted?

I made about twelve/fifteen submissions to agents and a couple to medium-sized publishing houses. However, my novel was 127,000 words, just a tad too much for most people to want to take on the risk as I hadn’t been published before. Then, an author friend of mine read my work and suggested me to his publisher and bam! No agent, just a straight-up acceptance and contract. After reading the first book, they immediately e-mailed and said, “You’ve written a sequel, right?” (I had written three book in the series by that point, with two more to come) They wanted the lot.
