As an author, do you use ChatGTP to aid in your writing process?

There’s a huge difference between using AI as a sounding board or research (verified elsewhere) vs. generating content. As a software developer by day, I use ChatGPT regularly for suggestions on best practices and logic sequences, and then I WRITE AND TEST MY OWN CODE, taking in account those suggestions. As a writer by night, I’ll brainstorm ideas, work through potential plot sequences and other similar tasks in the ideation stage, and then I WRITE MY OWN PROSE.

Even with very diligent prompt engineering, ChatGPT hasn’t ever arrived at any wholesale ideas that were worth using unmodified. But having a sounding board in the ideation process leads ME to being able to curate and compile bits and pieces of suggestions that have merit into a strong idea that I assemble myself.

Those commenting about how using AI for ideas replaces the writer’s imagination, or using AI replaces the work of writing itself, have never properly used AI, or suffer from a lack of imagination themselves on how such a tool can be used in many stages of writing (that don’t involve replacing the work of writing itself.)
