3 Benefits Of Writing Fiction
Writing fiction is a life changing experience and I love it. This is for anyone who is thinking of writing fiction and needs a little push. This will help you start your journey into creative writing and telling stories. Here are three things I have learned and love about creative writing whilst studying it at university.
Benefit One: Permission to Role-play
Imagine you’re on a distant world waiting to board a ship, or you’ve found a floating city of diamonds. You can do this, immerse yourself in that experience and then write down what you experienced. The fun of roleplay always gets a creative flow going and more ideas are possible.
Benefit Two: Realising Anything is possible
Anything is possible, take something we know and look at it from a different point of view. In a masterclass Neil Gaiman asks what if a werewolf bites a goldfish? Then we can daydream and role-play by asking follow up questions.
Benefit Three: Standing on the Shoulders of Giants
There is a lot of inspiration out there, if they can do it so can we:
The Big Over Easy by Jasper Fforde
Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan.
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K Dick.
To be a fiction Writer you need to be a fiction reader.
