After years of publishing my writing online on LinkedIn, Medium, and X…
Plus publishing a fiction novel on Amazon…
I believe there cannot be a motivated or unmotivated writer.
It's all about training your mind and body to pump out words effortlessly.
Here’s how I did it: ‘
I created a writing flow routine:
Set up a timer for all phases of writing:
I divided my writing into 3 parts - Marination, writing, and editing.
Within the first 30 minutes, I would immerse my mind in great writing by my favorite writers- James Altucher, Tej Dosa, Gary Halbert, Nicholas Cole, etc.
Sometimes I even hand-write their stuff to get into the depth of their skill.
2. Choosing the topics:
Usually, I have a collection of topics to write on so that I don't waste time on brainstorming.
So I recommend doing the brainstorming session beforehand.
3. Start the writing:
Nothing fancy.
I start a timer of 30 minutes. Put on my writing playlist. And start writing.
My mind is now accustomed to putting me in the writing zone automatically.
Also… here's the weirdest trick to alleviate the pressure-
I say to myself “I’m going to write the worst piece of writing ever!”
This takes away all the pressure of perfection. Try it if you want!
4. Editing Phase:
I like to keep a gap between the writing and editing phases depending on the deadlines.
This gives it more depth.
There’s only one rule when it comes to editing- Be ruthless with cutting.
Thats it!
…….
Trust me when I say, I have wasted years waiting for motivation.
Only to realize there isn’t.
There will be days when it will be easier to fall into the writing flow and there will be days when your mind will struggle. That's totally fine.
Keep reminding yourself that - You’re lucky to do what you love… Writing
