Writing is about expression. Growing up, I was an extremely shy kid who struggled with expressing anything - from anger to joy, and just feelings in general. Judy Blume was the first author I read as a child and her writing helped me see that there was a way for me to freely express myself.

Many therapists even recommend journaling to process emotions and as a form of therapy so writing is quite helpful for those who struggle with verbal expression. Books were my first friends and outlet for my emotions.
