Has anyone ever written a novel that wasn't divided into chapters and just ran continuously from first page to last? If so, is it common?

There’s an Indie Author named Jerry Boyd who’s doing this.

His main series is 50 books long now, and he regularly hits the tops of his categories on Amazon US.

Personally, I don’t like the style.

I like chapters, because they give me stopping points, and makes life easier figuring out where to start up from again.

The endless narrative just doesn’t work for me.

But it does work for others.

It’s not common though.

And I don’t recommend it.

Chapters define the pacing. The longer the chapters the slower the read tends to be. The shorter the chapters, the faster the read. Mixing them up changes the pace.

The long single chapter to me feels like just a ramble, not a read. But that’s me.
