I’m trying to be a writer and only have written 3 short stories, and now I want to make a novel that’s mostly inspired by the Borderlands Games, but I have problem of it not trying to be Borderlands and being its own thing, how can I achieve this?

don’t worry about basing it on something

all of mine started with ‘WHAT IF’

writing a novel can be hard and long or quick and easy

my first book i wrote in 4 weeks [okay i admit i fell asleep on the key board once or twice] its now a 5 book series and they all took longer to write than the 1st

my 2nd started as a short story & my computer blew up & i lost it

so i set out to rewrite it 98 thousand words later i realised i had sorta gone past the short

I began writing when I suddenly found myself disabled and unable to do much else

I wrote for my pleasure - to keep my mind occupied [still do]

after I finish I put it away and leave it for 12 months & start another [always have a note pad handy so you can jot down a ‘WHAT IF’ when it comes to you - don’t try to remember it - YOU WONT]

after 12 months read it [& 1st edit]

if you like it you have written a novel

does it matter if no one else reads it ?

if it does

if you want to make money from writing you had better either be exceptionally good or exceptionally lucky

I was lucky but it doesn’t matter to me if it sells or not

good job as apparently the average an author makes is about a £1000 pa

have to admit again I’m lucky

but i write in 6 genres [6 pen names 4 publishers 3 agents

and if the time comes WATCHOUT FOR VANITY PUBLISHERS😁

I still get pestered by the 🤬
