How do I get myself to write stories? I want to write a fantasy-based novel, but I can only make myself do a few pages. Is there anything that helps you to write?

No, you don’t want to write a novel.

If you actually, truly, wanted to write a novel, you’d be writing now.

You just want to have written a novel. You want the novel without the work.

Real writers write, no matter what. They can’t stop writing. They have stories in their heads nonstop, all the time, even when asleep.

Now I don’t know why you think you want to have written a novel, but let me enlighten you on two things. It won’t make you famous and it won’t make you money, not without a lot of work that amounts to a full time job of promoting your book—so essentially, if you want to write, and you want to make money from it, you need three jobs; your day job that pays the bills, your job as a writer and your job as a promoter.

Of course you could always marry someone rich, then you could putter about with your novel all you like until your spouse gets tired of it and tells you to get a job.

There are no tips, tricks or hacks. Just sitting down, exercising self-discipline, and writing at least a page a day, then rewriting and editing it at least a dozen times.
