What is your professional skill?

I’m semi-retired in my early 60’s, having worked full-time professional since the 80’s. I have had many many jobs, many careers. Here are the high-points:

Research technician at H/P labs, my main thing was electron microscopy, but I was a well-skilled technician in general, a decent programmer, and played a significant role in bringing H/P up to ISO-9000 quality standards in an earlier role.

A quality specialist for a now defunct quality consulting company. They had management problems but in their better years, I was travelling the US and providing quality services for larger companies such as Caterpillar.

A systems analyst for larger grocery store technology. Big database stuff, and honestly, boring compared to the other two careers.

There are a lot of fill-in jobs. I had a mid-life crisis and did construction and heavy equipment for a while, and I did some web design stuff on the side.

I’m about 2 years away from retirement, and I am far less ambitious. I work evenings and nights in electronic parts distribution to Asia/Oceania. It’s permanent work-from-home and good money. Again, not that exciting, but it pays the bills and the company benefits are better than average.

I recently took up day-trading stocks. If it plays out the way I expect, I will formally retire later this year and use that as my primary income. I cannot say this is a skill yet, but it’s coming along nicely.
