What newfound skill or hobby have you picked up recently that you're really enjoying?

I’ve been spending a lot of time lately learning laser engraving/cutting and CNC carving.

The CNC stuff turned out to be roughly an order of magnitude more difficult than I expected—my god, there’s a lot of “there” there—but I’ve had more success with laser engraving.

Which isn’t to say the laser engraving has been going swimmingly, exactly. I’ve had some fairly catastrophic failures:

This was supposed to be a display for the launch of our new novel London Under Veil, which launches at Worldcon Glasgow this year; as you can see, it…didn’t work so well. (Here’s the design that inspired it, taken from the novel’s cover):

So yeah, rather colossal fail. But no matter, I’m working on a new version!
