Educated people know some things about Asia. I mean those people who went to school and really studied there. There were history lessons and literature.
When I was 11 or 12, I knew some things about Indian mythology and how Indians used to burn widows, for example. I knew about their caste system and Buddhism. We even read an extract from “The Mahābhārata” in our extra literature class.
I didn’t know much about China, of course. I knew about Confucius (but everyone knows about him). There was a large paragraph about China in my history textbook, but I decided not to read it. I mean, I had already known about those “lotus feet”. At that time, that piece of information was enough for me to draw some conclusions about China.
As for Japan, it was a fascinating country for me and my friends. We all watched “Sailor Moon” and some other anime cartoons. I guess, my friends and I should be grateful to Japan for our sexual education )))) And I had a Sony TV that my grandfather had bought in Japan. That TV was great! It’s no wonder I’m a big fan of Sony )
Certainly, some people don’t know anything about Asia. Why? Maybe because they aren’t interested in faraway lands. Besides, more than a few people don’t know their own history, literature and even their language that well.
