What do you think of having basic tests for voters when voting to make sure they have an OK knowledge of politics before voting?

The idea has a very fundamental flaw.

Who decides what questions to ask, and what a correct answer is?

It’s simply far too easy for whoever is in power to abuse the system, and make it easier for their supporters to vote. It was actually tried in the US South, with disastrous results: the questions asked were ambiguous, letting whoever corrected the test put down a grade based on the voter’s skin colour. You get one guess as to which skin colour guaranteed that you couldn’t pass.

I’ve got a good example, designed for a different purpose but very useful here:

“Cup” goes with: A) Sink B) Saucer C) Glass D) Apple pie

If you’re poor, you’ll answer “A”, because that’s where you put the cup when you’re done with it. If you’re rich, you’ll answer “B”, because that’s how your servant brought you your coffee. If you’re middle class, you’ll answer “C”, because you have an education and figure out that they are both containers for liquids.

But it was I who designed the test. Only those who have read my answers on Quora know that the correct answer is “D”, because they are both baked in ovens. My followers are the only ones who pass.

I’m elected King in a landslide, because I got to write the question.
