In a recent case of Ujjain,
A class 10th student and social media influencer, Priyanshu Yadav, hanged himself to death when he received thousands of negative comments on his post for wearing saree and women's make-up.
Priyanshu always had been passionate about make-up and wanted to make a career in it. He had support of his mom for his this dream. He had been posting his contents on social media and he had more than 15k followers on Instagram.
On the occasion of Diwali,
He posted a video on insta wearing a saree and jewelleries of women for which he was trolled by thousands of people. He couldn't face this backlash made by people and committed suicide.
I won't comment if people who bullied him were wrong or Priyanshu who faced unnecessarily hatred by sick minded people was a victim.
Instead, I'll share my an another perspective for young social media users which seems more important to be discussed.
So,
Coming back to our question.
If you had to teach something, what would you teach?
We all know that social media has created a chaos and hunger among our young generation to get name and fame very quickly.
If social media provides diverse opportunities for us, it also has many drawbacks when it's not being used decisively.
Social media gives creators a freedom to create content over any topic. Supporting and promoting lgtbq community is the such one.
The idea of lgbtq is very sensitive topic and still socially unacceptable in India. If there are people to support its idea, there are more people who are against it.
Priyanshu had been creating content in the support of lgbtq for very long. It was inevitable that he would have gained both support and hatred from a mass of people, the day his content went viral.
This first mistake which Priyanshu made was choosing a sensitive topic over social media for which he was not mentally prepared to take its criticism.
No doubt, there was an enough opportunity in this community which could have made him famous over the time. But he was not yet prepared to face backlash.
Second mistake which costed him his life was taking social media too seriously in his life. He had both support and hate from people but he took one post too seriously which broke his mental peace enough to kill himself.
If I had to teach one thing to social media users, I would definitely say,
“Social media is a double edged sword. Both hatred and support are inevitable. Be first mentally prepared to accept criticism if you aspire to be a wanna influencer. You can't survive over social media if you don't know how to face criticism.”
