Hello. If you mean jumping ahead or holding a student back, then it is exactly what you should do. Our experience was that on some subjects they mastered the “grade-level” material very quickly. In those cases we bumped up to the next year’s curriculum. In some cases they struggled and it just took longer to get through the materiial.
Now, a big consideration is what is you child’s educatoinal goal. College bound or trade bound? If college is the goal then the imoportant thing is to have a transcript ready for the college which shows courses taken usually from 8th or 9th grade thru to graduation. Different colleges have different pre-requsites, such as 3 semesters of a foriegn language, a speccefic level of math, and other course work. If you don’t have those classes in enough hours your student may still be admitted but may have to take those classes before they can graduate.
If you have an exceptional student who has mastered most material through high-school, then the next destination may be to find a college that wants to take on someone so smart. Then it becomes up to the school as to what standards to use for admission.
Good luck.
