What do you listen to while you write?

In certain moods, I cycle through several recordings of The Messiah: Academy of St Martin in the Fields; Academy of Ancient Music; The Gabrieli Consort; Young Messiah; Robert Shaw.

Certain books are tied to certain albums. Lost Boys was written mostly to The Wild, the Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle. Several books were written to assorted Christmas music. I have written books to the music of Ruben Blades, Maria Bethania, Chico Buarque, Michael Buble, and other world pop music. While writing I have binged on Carole King, James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot, Patti Scialfa, Carrie Rodriguez, Tom Waits.

Classical music is my best choice most of the time. Beethoven and earlier, or DeBussy and Iater. Samuel Barber, Eric Satie, Stravinski, Richard Wagner, Prokoviev (except Peter and the Wolf: too much talking).
