How do I write a newspaper article about prevalent bullying at school?

The article writing is simple. The hard part is the research. In a typical school, I suspect these steps might work (except when the administration wants to keep things under wraps):

Interview a decent representation of your student body (e.g., all races, jocks, nerds, etc.). If a source is reluctant to talk, protect him/her by identifying the person as “a 10th grader,” etc.

Interview the school’s security officials. If they decline to talk, jot that down. Check the school’s website to see if it has any information.

You can also talk to various police officials. The lower ones may not want to talk on the record. If so, give them some protection (see above).

As always, if you have any complaint, try to find at least three options. Bureaucrats love it when they are presented with a solution. They may stonewall you to get you out the door and then adopt one of your solutions as their own (which is all right).
