Should one read the introduction of a book on a first time read?

I'll read a couple of pages of intro to see if:

It is really chapter 1; then I read the whole thing.

It is mostly an acknowledgments section. Then I skim or skip.

It will help refresh my memory of the topic of the book.

If it is a prologue to a novel, I skip it and start with the actual novel, which is always clearer and more interesting and gets me right into stories and characters that matter to the novel ‘s immediate story. Prologues rarely do more than give backstory that will be revealed anyway when the viewpoint character discovers it.

If it's a foreword by someone else, I skip it.

If it's a recap of an earlier volume in a series, and if I just finished reading the earlier book, I skip it; otherwise I read it to refresh my memory.
