Here's what I, a published author, do about the deluge of ideas.
Buy a lined notebook. When the next totally awesome, cannot miss idea comes around, give yourself 15 mins to jot down all you've got on it. Include setting, plot, theme, characters, amazing lines, whatever makes this idea so amazing!
When you are ready to address it you may find you now have time to do it justice or you may find it needs a lot of tweeking or that it is a rip off of something in print and you have great taste! It may be total crap! But you have time to give the idea attention now instead of sidelining your current work
The bottom line is respect and record new ideas but don't sacrifice your relationship with your current work in progress or you may never return to it in favor of the flashier “new” idea and sticking with an idea to the end is the only way authors get paid.
