What are some unique insights that writers have? How does the thought process of a writer differ from that of other individuals?

Just like journalist, we focus on the individuals. Sure, they’re fictional, yet character development is our bread and butter, which involves knowing what motivates people and how they think, but especially how those often don’t mesh, especially not which what they’ll say aloud (i.e. reading between the lines). That dramatically affects the stories we tell, as people often dance around the topics they’re uncomfortable admitting.
