In publishing there is something called, “The Elevator Pitch;” which is explaining what your story is about using one or two key points in about 30 seconds. If your pitch is, “my dull boring writer’s block,” then that sounds like something you need to work out in therapy, not write a 300-page epic about. If the answer you get from your pitch is blank indifference or, “who cares?” then that might be a sign that you need to rethink the story that you’re trying to tell.
note:
I’d give the same advice to, “my dull boring divorce/ midlife crisis/ getting fired/ income tax statement.” None of these sound like stories I’d want to spend time or energy engaging with, but that just might be me. Cheers!
