As a female beginner writer, what are some tips for writing male characters?

Don't make them swear too much.

Just like male writers writing women, you need to make sure the opposite gender gets action. The men can't tag along while the women do all the work. Do make them protect or try to protect women they are concerned about.

A man who is really sexist or who is only interested in women to use them sexually can still be very competent.

Men really do work harder than women physically if they have jobs that require it, but often they work hard episodically. For instance a US Marine might be in combat sometimes but other times have time to play Warhammer 40K.

Men like to relax just like women. A point of annoyance I have with my husband is that he buys lots of fresh vegetables intending to cook for himself, not realizing he won't feel like it after work.

Traditional women's work is lighter but constant. You always have to wash the dishes. If a woman doesn't work one day, say because of a religious Sabbath, she'll always have to make it up the next.

Men feel bad if women show them up but mature men can put it behind them.
