Author Hilary Mantel said "Being a novelist is no fun. But fun isn't high on my list." What do you think about this matter? Do you find writing a need but a chore?

Since there are several thousand easier ways to make money, I wouldn’t spend my days writing if it was a chore.

Admittedly, when I am on a deadline and having to produce more words than I would prefer in a day or week, it’s not as much fun. But, there’s a reason why I do this instead of something else: it’s immensely satisfying to get my stories and ideas out into the world, all while making a living.
