Can ChatGPT be instructed to not write anything?

Quora used to allow us to report questions as “insincere.”

If this is a question that you sincerely want answered, then I finally understand their decision to remove that option.

As far as you are concerned, ChatGPT is *already* not writing anything.

If we replaced “ChatGPT” with my name, you’d be requesting permission to ask me to not answer this question.

As far as I know, ChatGPT has no interface other than text. So it is *possible* to give it the following message prompt.

Do not write anything in response to this request.

However it is *impossible* for ChatGPT to comply.

Unlike the rest of Quorans who are *not* answering this question, ChatGPT cannot ignore you.

At the very minimum it would reply, “I can't do that, Hal.” (If you know, you know 😉)

If I asked you to stop breathing you would probably refuse. But you could do it momentarily if you chose to.

Asking ChatGPT to not write anything is more like asking you shrink yourself like Ant-Man.

Unless you can. 🤷
