Medium is a platform that primarily focuses on entrepreneurial, startup, venture capital, and Silicon Valley narratives. However, it lacks engagement for the average blogger and the majority of traffic goes to the "Top Stories" feed, which is more of a vanity play. The ideal content on Medium is long-form storytelling that is around 7 minutes in length, as well as life-hacking and opinion pieces that are more vulnerable in nature. In early 2016, Medium was trending and considered a "Millennial Meme" channel, but it may not be the best platform for serious bloggers. It is particularly popular among audiences in San Francisco and specific segments such as millennials, entrepreneurs, startups, tech industry professionals, digital marketers, and residents of California and Seattle.
On the other hand, Quora serves as an educational channel for amateur experts, although it is important not to assume that these individuals are true experts. It specializes in providing semantic long-tail answers to various specific questions or hosting real-time AMAs (Ask Me Anything) upon request. While Quora has good SEO, it does not necessarily generate high levels of traffic, unless a user's question and answer session gets lucky and is highlighted by a top writer or Quora Influencer. Quora does offer a "Blog" feature, but it is not widely used or read. However, Quora shows significant potential for appealing to millennial Indians and has a high chance of syncing well with Google search, particularly if "voice search" becomes more prevalent.
