How can I write YA romance without being cliche or overdone?

admin 233 0

Millions, literally millions, of romance novels have been written. The basic plot is always the same. Two people meet, are attracted to each other, face obstacles and misunderstandings that seem to make their fulfillment impossible, overcome those obstacles, and their romance is able to go forward—maybe the particular genre ends with sex, or with marriage, or with a chaste kiss and proposal. Whatever.

There is no point in worrying that the story has been dine before—of course it has! Just write your story with your characters.

Read anything from Jane Austen, to the later Anne of Green Gables series, to Harlequin Romances, to the Christian/Amish genre, to slash fanfiction. It’s the same plot, with slightly different backgrounds and limitations.
