With modest amounts of practice, many people can type at around 30 words a minute, so 1000 words represents something just over half an hour of typing time.
What is harder to quantify is how long different individuals might want to spend preparing, structuring and refining the work. And that depends a lot on the purpose and readership of the article. If it’s something casual for a blog, it might justify half a day of your time. If it’s for a national or professional publication of some kind, it would justify much longer, perhaps up to a week of work.
As a guideline, if I was doing a 1000-word article with little or no footnotes and other complications, just a “personal opinion” kind of article, I think I’d want to allocate a day for the project.
