My list is derived from qualities rather than academic or trade skills because I believe that these are prerequisites to others. Develop these skills and it will help you to attain others.
Maturity. Being mature is so important for dealing with emotions and making good decisions. So many other qualities are included with maturity that I see it as one of the top qualities to develop.
Responsibility. When we take responsibility for our actions, we avoid being a victim of life. We realize that our destiny is mostly in our own hands and stem from our own decisions. We don't blame others, which is counterproductive.
Integrity. Honesty, character, reputation - these are all dependent on integrity. They are who you are and how you are judged as a person. Good or bad, this is how you will be thought of and remembered.
Patience. One of the greatest, yet least practiced qualities. How often do we wish we had more and not seen it used by others? Patience is so crucial for maintaining emotional stability, relationships and establishing peace and contentment.
Kindness. We all benefit from a dose of kindness, even if it's a small thing like holding a door for someone. It can be positive and addictive when practiced. It often is imitated by the person who was benefitted. There are never negative aspects to showing kindness. Treat others as you would have them treat you.
