It wouldn’t hurt to do an online basic food hygiene course too, well worth the cost.
Thus, one’s tastes, combined with a little trial and error, with pointers from professional chefs (I like Gordan Ramsey online, where he describes steak. I know how to do steak, but having tips and guidance on how to improve is time well spent).
Watching chefs on TV has improved my curry skills and fish prep. Looking toward Keith Floyd and Rick Stein.
Even if you are starting from the beans on toast, boiled eggs and instant noodles phase of life, it’s never too late to learn. Your future self depends on some education and practice.
BTW, avoid the Standard American Diet at all costs, minimize Ultra-Processed Foods, Processed Foods, Seed Oils, alcohol, sugar and anything GM. Your body will thank you.
