Remembering phone numbers.
Today, I only remember my phone number, my husband’s, and my parents’ because I intentionally learned them for emergencies.
During the 90s when we got our first landline phone, I remembered the numbers of all my school friends and close relatives. I could sneak into the living room for a quick call when no one was around.
We did keep a diary next to the phone with all the numbers noted alphabetically. But I had no patience to look it up before dialing my closest friend or maternal grandparents. Some numbers were intentionally not noted in the diary. I remembered it all effortlessly.
Interesting Fact: Some numbers just stick to your brain for unknown reasons. I still remember the landline number along with the area code of one of my closest 80-year-old relatives who got that number 25 years ago. I haven’t even called that number in a decade because we talk over WhatsApp mobile calls, but if you still wake me up in the middle of the night and ask, I clearly remember, while I’ve forgotten my own mobile number from 5 years ago.
Strange, but true!
