Original question: Do you think you are proficient in speaking skill if "yes" why?
I’m reasonably proficient, because I have a great deal of experience.
In high school, I competed successfully in speech contests, mostly impromptu speaking but occasionally extemporaneous speaking.
I spent several years as an instructor in a college, a university, and commercial schools.
Then I spent over 30 years as an instructor, curriculum developer, and training manager in a large in-house training program for a big electronics firm. Around half of the teaching parts of that job were training in presentation, negotiation, and meeting skills. I did a lot of speaking while teaching, naturally, in classes of up to a few dozen trainees, and I’ve also done numerous presentations, speeches, and lectures to groups of several hundred people, both in those days and since my semi-retirement 15 years or so ago.
Although a lot of my relatively long career has involved writing and editing, at least half of it involved public speaking of one kind or another. Positive assessments by employers and trainees alike indicate that I have been reasonably proficient.
