From what I understand, Yoongi never saw himself as a gifted dancer. He saw himself as a rapper and producer, period. Yoongi didn't even see himself as an idol and, as he himself said, the mere thought of "being an idol" disgusted him.
It was over time that he began to love his profession as an idol beyond production, which for me is very praiseworthy because it helped him feel more comfortable with the "idol" label.
It was when he became an idol trainee that he discovered that part of the skills he had to have was dancing. He discovered that he did it more than well.
He performed so well as a dancer that there were several occasions in which he, Hoseok and JK were backup dancers for other artists. This happened when they were just trainees.
For a person who thinks he has no dancing skills, for him to do it so well (obviously not on Hoseok or Jimin's level) he certainly does well.
The truth is that the only way a person improves in an art that they are not an expert in, but still have skills in, is by practicing.
Considering that part of an idol's work routine is the constant practice of choreographies, Yoongi has not escaped from that part of the job. As you can see, in the dance practices of each choreography, he performs well.
Practice, practice and practice, that is the only way a person improves in any craft or skill.
