Is it wrong of me to not like calling people ‘Sir’?

I still remember the very first day of my chemistry practical class .

First time wearing brand new apron I was feeling high on cloud nine like a scientist . We all were extremely excited as it was our first experiment.

Our lab assistant came and handed over one test tube to each student . First time I was seeing a test tube .

I hold the test tube and started observing the test tube curiously . Suddenly the test tube slipped from my hand and fell down . It smashed on the floor . I got scared as the lab assistant came running .

Sorry Sir , Very Very Sorry Sir .

He replied, No problem. I am giving you another one but take care this time .

He brought another tube and started cleaning the floor . I felt embarrassed and started saying again So So Sorry Sir .

While I was saying this , Our Lab Ma’m entered and screamed how dare you call a lab bearer SIR ?

And there was pin drop silence in the lab . The poor man went outside the lab immediately .

She made me realise whom to call Sir and Madam . But my heart didn’t approve . Later I went to him and said sorry again. He just smiled with moist eyes .

Now I realise how bad that woman was . Full of EGO . Couldn’t tolerate calling a bearer Sir .

I agree there is social norm in our Society to address people according to their jobs . We can’t address gardener , sweeper , cook , driver or waiter as SIR . But we don’t have any right to humiliate them in front of others . Every one has Self Respect and Dignity .
