One piece of advice that's ingrained in society is to follow the traditional path: go to public school, get a degree, land a 9-5 job, and settle into a life of routine.
I completely disagree with this notion.
This advice sets many people on a path toward mediocrity, rather than encouraging them to pursue their passions, take risks, or think outside the box. It doesn’t foster innovation, creativity, or fulfillment. Instead, it pushes people into lives that may feel safe but are ultimately unfulfilling.
There’s a great quote from Jim Rohn: “If you don't design your own life plan, chances are you'll fall into someone else's plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.” That couldn’t be more true. When you simply follow what society expects, you fall into the trap of living someone else’s version of success.
For me, realizing that I didn’t fit into this mold was a turning point. I saw firsthand how simply doing what ‘everyone else’ was doing led to burnout and dissatisfaction. I knew I had to forge my own path, break away from the conventional, and think bigger.
So my advice?
Go away from the 97% of people. Don’t do what they do. Don’t go where they go. Don’t think how they think. Don’t talk how they talk. You are unique, capable of anything. Instead of following the well-worn path, take control of your journey. Design your life around what fulfills you, not what society expects.
Become the best version of yourself.
