What is the easiest way to catch a liar?

An acquaintance of mine, who was a police officer specializing in interrogations, suggested a technique to me which I later verified from another source. It involves going over a person's story again in the form of questions, but in reverse order from the end to the beginning. This method makes it more challenging for someone who is fabricating a story to keep their details consistent, compared to someone recalling from memory.
