Which is better: gaining more knowledge or gaining more understanding? Why?

It is better gaining more knowledge once you’ve first gained more understanding, because a greater foundation of understanding broadens and deepens the reach for more knowledge. To compare, gaining understanding after having gained more knowledge tends to limit one to understanding primarily the knowledge already had. This may seem like circular thinking, but actually instead, this is spiraled thinking.
