Computers are actually really really old when you stop and think about it. Especially when you realize that there’s a WHOLE WORLD of non-electronic, mechanical computers.
I even forgot this till a few years ago when I found this:
Despite it being battery powered, it IS a programmable machine utilizing a toothed wheel with interchangable parts to “program” the way in which it moves and operates.
It’s no different than looms, knitting machines, and player pianos work…. And the early punch card computers…
And what is little known or little thought of, is that this isn’t the only “alternative” way to build a computer…. Provided you have the means of creating logic gates and process functions, you can create a computer out of just about anything.
