Okay, here's the thing about Learning Management Systems - after 10+ years of training people, I've learned that the "best" one isn't about fancy bells and whistles. It's super simple actually: if people hate using it, it doesn't matter how expensive or feature-packed it is!
I've messed around with tons of these systems (and trust me, some were absolute nightmares). The other day, I was playing with TestHQ for my test prep classes, and it hit me - this is exactly how simple these things should be! Made me think about what really matters in an LMS.
So here's my no-BS list of what you actually need:
1. Keep it Simple, Seriously
Listen, if your team needs a training course just to figure out the training platform... you're doing it wrong. It should be as easy as posting on social media.
2. Show Me the Progress
Everyone needs to know what's up:
• Who's actually doing the work
• Where people are getting stuck
• The stuff that's working (and what's not)
• How long things really take
3. Make it Phone-Friendly
C'mon, it's 2024! People want to learn while they're on the bus or waiting for their lunch order. If it looks awful on their phone, they're not gonna use it.
4. Make it Fun (or at least not boring)
Nobody wants to read endless PDF files. Mix it up with:
• Quick videos
• Cool quizzes
• Group chats
• Live stuff
5. Smart Reminders
Because nobody (and I mean nobody) wants to be that person sending "gentle reminder" emails every day.
Here's a little secret I learned after way too many frustrated phone calls: make sure it works offline too. The internet loves to cut out right when you're about to finish something important!
Bottom line? The best LMS is like your favorite playlist - it just works, and you don't have to think about it. If people are spending more time complaining about how to use it than actually learning stuff, something's not right.
Drop a comment and tell me what drives you crazy about your current LMS - I bet we've got some horror stories in common! 😅
