What are the benefits of digital learning over traditional education methods?

The benefits are largely because digital learning can draw on different media and a vast amount of information resources, all of which are easily available now to anyone with a broadband Internet connection. AI still isn’t trustworthy enough for a lot of educational purposes, but as it develops, it too will add to resources available digitally (of course, it will also bring its own problems, too).

Digital connections also allow larger communities of inquiry and practice. As a graduate student I was delighted to work on group projects with people on different continents—with all their different experiences and perspectives—let alone people in different classrooms.

And while this is still in its infancy, digital learning can allow greater individualization in learning. At the moment, it’s time-consuming to create individual learning and practice opportunities for each student. This will become much easier as software is able to recognize where learners are specifically challenged and create multiple opportunities to overcome them. Probably real-life teachers can recognize where learners are having difficulties at least as easily as software, if not more so, but building individual resources takes time teachers just don’t have.
