Hi, glad that you asked this question.
To get into top IIMs, there are two ways- 1. Executive PGP
2. PGP
Now for PGP you need to get through CAT, GD and PI, and for e-PGP you need minimum 5 years of managerial level experience, good SOP, a diverse profile and strong PI capability.
Best ePGP are IIM-B & IIM-K
Now if it is CAT, get your self coached on
CAT VARC Syllabus: It focuses on English topics such as reading comprehension, para summary, para completion and odd one out. Read everything adn whatever possible you like in starting, whether it is fiction, non-fiction or something else but with time move to The Hindu editorials, Aeon essays, NY Times, The Economist and some other good international newspaper or magazines. Here, I would like to say that don’t leave reading in between because VARC is the only section among the three which takes the maximum time to fetch results.
CAT DILR Syllabus: People say that if any section that is standing in between you and an IIM is this one "LRDI,” and the reason for the same is it is the most unpredictable section. It requires the interpretation of data through the information provided in the form of graphs, charts, and topics, such as arrangements, games and tournaments, set theory, etc.
CAT Quant Syllabus: My favourite one, this includes topics of middle school mathematics divided into 5 major parts such as algebra, arithmetic, geometry, modern math and number systems.
Though there is a lack of a defined CAT syllabus, the most common topics and questions can be deduced based on an analysis of the previous papers.
You can get yourself coached through- Career Launcher, Coursera, Various other youtube channels like
2IIM
Cracku
Rodha
Bodhee Prep
Elites Grid
LRDI Master
Now you also need to know that your interview can be really really unpredictable, they can ask questions based on your answers, which is quite a common phenomenon, so answer wisely.
It was during my PI when they asked me ‘why should North East not become an independent country’? just because i mentioned I have. managed NE region before in my company. That was terrifying. i somehow managed to answer that. Then there were questions which were contextual to the on-going situation of COVID, as i was put into the situation to decide if i should continue to roll out vaccines if the third clinical trial is not done and one question that i can never forget was ‘How many rivers do i need to cross, if I come from my hometown via road.’ This simply means questions can be from anywhere under the sun.
Now coming to certifications, any NGO service certificate, a good 2-3 year corporate experience, and strong cross-domain knowledge and some couple of technical certifications would be a cherry on the cake. If you can somehow show yourself as a founder or something that shows you have been into entrepreneurship, it would be just perfect.
Just stick to the basics and keep your prep consistent.
So that’s everything about my answer.
Best wishes to you, upvote if you like it.
Thanks,
