Are edX certificates valuable to universities?

In Canada? The ninety-six public universities are reluctant to give any transfer credit beyond first year, and require the equivalent of Canadian Grade 12 for admission. The edX courses are strictly short-term and vocationally oriented courses that will not be assessed for advance credit here.
